Drama Award 2012
The ACG held its first Drama Award competition in recent years in 2012, looking for innovative and creative play scripts of 40 to 50 minutes in length. There was no fixed subject but they were intended in some way to reflect the human condition, either personally, socially or politically.
The competition administrator was Tony Jasper.
On 15th April 2013 there were performances of the two commended playscripts at Café Eterno, and it is hoped that these inaugural ACG drama awards would be a springboard for future competitions to encourage new playwriting.
The award presentation was held on Friday 26 October 2012 by Frank Barrie at the Society of Authors, London SW10. Frank Barrie is one of Britain’s most celebrated classical actors. He is a highly respected mentor and a Senior Examiner for Trinity Guildhall Examination.
He presented Certificates of Merit to Danielle R. Corgan (left) for her play Writing To The Queen and to Kit Walkham (right) for Postcard To The Edge.
Frank gave an enthralling talk which included reminiscences of the late Julian Battersby. The drama awards had been instigated partly in honour of Julian’s memory, so it was particularly apt that Frank and Julian had worked together in a Shakespeare play during the early part of their careers. Frank recounted how, in the same week, he had been offered the opportunity to work at the Old Vic by Sir Laurence Olivier and Julian had secured a place with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
